As Jaap and Brian have said, perhaps you're not running iPhone system  
2.2 yet. To find out, from the main screen (Springboard) tap on  
Settings, then tap on General, then tap on About. Check that version  
is 2.2.

If it isn't, you can upgrade to 2.2 by attaching your iPhone to your  
computer, opening iTunes, clicking on your device as it appears in  
iTunes under Devices, look under the Summary tab and click on the  
button "Check for Updates". Since you have an iPhone, the update to  
2.2 should be free.
