I started a new topic because I hate threads being hijacked as I lose
track of things.
What are the constraints people expect with swimlanes?
Assuming for a moment that Instaviz eventually acquires more of
Graphviz, which may be just a question of allowing entry of other
attributes, do the existing subgraphs in GraphViz satisfy your desire
for swimlanes?
I have an example of using a subgraph to provide a legend, for anyone
not familiar with them, on a blog posting showing the code and
renderered graph

I have also played around in GraphViz with using blank labels and
plaintext nodes to have just lines drawn on a graph, which can serve
to some degree as swimlanes.
