Thanks all for your feedback, and so far my initial tests with 200  
nodes seem to animate well. I hope to get the new display engine out  
in the 1.5 version, all depending on when Apple releases it's next  
point update to iPhoneOS (although the display engine will still work  
with 3.0). The main advantage of the new display engine is that you'll  
be able to see all the shapes and links at any size -- you won't get  
the checkerboard pattern when you scroll to a previously undisplayed  
area, except perhaps for text -- this should help tremendously with  
autoscrolling and speed of scrolling, and lay the foundation for  
animating the nodes when the layout changes.
