I thought about this, since I already use the checkerboard pattern to  
fill in the empty spaces when scrolling etc. I have two issues here:

-- it's not really a transparent color as it is "use the default  
color". For example, if you have the X color and choose filled from  
the styles, the system chooses a light gray (as per Graphviz defaults).
-- I'm myself am used to seeing the checkerboard as transparent, being  
a former designer and Photoshop/Illustrator user myself, but I wonder  
whether a layman would see it as a real pattern instead i.e. I chose  
this checkerboard pattern, why isn't the graph displaying it? At least  
the cross looks more obviously like it's not a color.

Opinions people?
